Exteriors and Insurance Claims: Restoring and Replacing So It’s Better Than New

Whether by Mother Nature or human error, occasionally properties will experience the damaging effects. At Brunn, we’ve replaced windows, siding, roofs and more with truly remarkable results — and more often than not, better than the original. Give us a call to discuss insurance claims related to weather damage or other unforeseen disaster.

Peter and Margo Get a New Outside Look

Several homes in the Lino Lakes area took a beating during severe hailstorms this past season, and Peter and Margo’s was one of them. They contacted us to come out and assess the damage to their siding and windows and to recommend a course of action.

The Challenge

Replacing the original aluminum siding with a similar product meant the home would be susceptible to future storm damage, which neither the homeowner nor Brunn felt was an option. Working with the insurance company to ensure Peter and Margo received a fair settlement required a thorough understanding of products and materials to restore the exterior of the home thoroughly and satisfactorily.

The Solution

Wayne Brunn worked with the insurance and assessed the total damage so that all parties had a complete understanding of what needed to be accomplished. We recommended installing Certainteed Weatherboard siding, a pre-finished product with a 25-year warranty for improved longevity. We also installed Marvin Ultimate Casement windows, a custom-made product that is built to fit the existing openings with a high-quality, yet affordable solution. The Brunn team also replaced the garage doors, gutters and downspouts to finish the project.

After 2 hail storms, we were faced with the overwhelming process of replacing siding, trim, gutters, garage doors and windows.  To increase the anxiety, we decided to change the color scheme.  We selected Brunn Construction, the original contractor for our home, after interviewing many contractors. When Wayne Brunn came to talk to us, it felt like he loved our house as much as we did.  He complimented us on our upgrades!

He was very warm and easy to discuss issues with and offered various suggestions on color ideas.  He fully disclosed all the pricing for each area prior to starting the project. He was very patient and answered all our questions.

Once we had decided on a color scheme, Wayne was extremely helpful with ordering a 'custom color.' Before the final order, he brought samples to verify the color and avoid mishaps.  He brought to our home many samples of siding trim, windows and gutters and helped us analyze which product would best serve us.  Once the project started, he was stopped in often to see the progress and check that it met our expectations.  As with all big projects like this, there are always set backs!  We have bricks that fell down in the process of removing the old siding.  Brunn Construction went out of their way to replace the unique bricks that were not longer available by hiring a 'brick specialist' to recolor/redo the bricks to match.

We would fully recommend Brunn Construction to any family that wants to have a personal touch with their contractor.
Wayne always had OUR best interest in mind as we went through this project!

In the end, Brunn handled the Hardi Board siding, Marvin Window (custom match interior trim), Gutters, Fascia and Soffit, Garage doors. And most important, was our advocate with the insurance company.

Charles and Deb’s Christmas Eve Surprise

This Columbia Heights family had an unplanned visitor on Christmas Eve. The driver of a van lost control of his vehicle that night and plowed into the side of Charles and Deb’s house after they had gone to celebrate the holiday with family. Thankfully no one was hurt, but the exterior of the home and the inside of the kitchen suffered extensive damages.

The Challenge

Brunn carpenters came to the rescue and boarded up the hole to secure the home while the Charles and Deb waited for the insurance adjuster.

Because the exterior of the home is stucco, it presented a unique challenge to find a good match to blend into the existing surface and hide all of the repairs.

The challenge for the kitchen was deciding whether or not to restore it to its original design.

The Solution

Bill Brunn met the insurance adjustor on site to share his recommendations on how to repair the damages, making sure all of the expenses were covered.

We were able to find a perfect match for the stucco, which enabled us to touch-up other broken areas around the exterior of the home at the same time. Because the kitchen was in such a state of disrepair, it allowed Brunn designers to re-configure the design to give Charles and Deb an updated look with added cabinetry and countertops for an efficient new kitchen.
